What is a computer's Firewall?

A Firewall is a computer program that monitors the flow of information from the internet to your computer. There are two types of firewalls are available for you to use – Firewall Hardware and Software Firewalls.

Hardware Firewall:
A Hardware Firewall is a piece of physical equipment that sits between the Internet and your computer. An example of a hardware firewall broadband router, a common form of Internet connection. The advantage of using a hardware firewall, is it has the ability to protect some of the computer systems that connect to the network at the same time. This makes an effective firewall for use in businesses that have multiple computers connected to the Internet, as well as in homes that have more than one computer system.

Software Firewall:
Software Firewalls work the same way as hardware firewalls, by monitoring and blocking information that comes to your computer through the internet, but software firewalls must be installed as a program on your computer. Good software this firewall can be installed from a computer disk that have been purchased or downloaded through the Internet. Types of the most common firewall programs like Norton 360, Norton Internet Security, ESET Smart Security, and Kaspersky Internet Security firewall has all bundled in it.

Firewall:
A firewall helps to prevent hackers from accessing your computer from your computer through the Internet, and steal sensitive information or infecting your computer system with some form of computer viruses. A hacker could gain access to your system with a "back door" or open ports that connect your computer to the Internet.
